Rhett is a native of Atlanta who (in case you were wondering) was indeed named after a certain fictional character from a novel by Margaret Mitchell. He completed his undergraduate work at Oglethorpe University in 1985. After college, he spent 6 years with Ernst & Young in Atlanta, where he worked as a Manager on audits of both public and privately held companies. While at E&Y, Rhett earned his CPA credentials, attaining the highest score in Georgia and earning the Sells Award for High Distinction on the CPA exam.

With law and business degrees from Harvard and Yale, Rhett's other professional experience includes policy positions with the federal and state governments, financial risk management consulting, and experience with both large and small law firms.

Prior to forming The Laurens Firm, Rhett was with Goldman Sachs & Co., working in the Atlanta office with investors and their advisors to create wealth management plans that combined income tax, estate planning and gifting techniques with investment strategies. Rhett has over 20 years of experience preparing tax returns and advising clients on income tax issues.

Rhett is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the State Bar of Georgia, and the Atlanta Bar Association. He is also active in charitable and non-profit organizations in Atlanta.

I started the Laurens Firm because I really enjoy saving people money on taxes. Whether it's an income tax or estate tax issue, I'm motivated to find a way to save money for my clients - and hopefully give them some peace of mind in the process.
